Figure 3. Quadrat disposition within each plot. Each plot was a 3 × 3 m square. The disposition of the quadrats was chosen in order to obtain a 50 cm border around a 4 m² area. The fact that quadrats are of two different sizes (0.5 and 0.25 m²) is a consequence of this design.
